Abstract:

The collection includes artifacts, many of which are on permanent exhibit at the Downtown Transit Center on public transportation in Milwaukee County; photographs and glass plate negatives, paper items, such as passes, and training manuals for bus operations.  Many items are in the general Milwaukee County Transit Collection.  Others are housed in this personal grouping of Mr. Scroggins among vertical files on Milwaukee and transportation history. 

Biographical Note:

Irwin C. Scroggins was a 50-year Veteran of The Transport Company and collected widely on public transportation.  This includes material from the horse-drawn street railway era, which began in 1860, the electric street railway era, which began in 1890, The Milwaukee Electric Street and Light Company (TMER&L) established in 1896, which became The Milwaukee Electric Railway & Transport Company in 1938 and the Milwaukee and Suburban Transport Corporation in 1952, through the transfer in 1975 to Milwaukee County operations. 

Administrative Info:

Collection was donated by Irwin C. Scroggins in May 1993.  Additional material was donated in 2003 by Mrs. Irwin Scroggins.  The collection was reprocessed by Kevin Abing in 2001, and added to by Kevin Abing in 2003.
