Abstract: Charles B. Whitnall contributed to the early development and planning in the Milwaukee area. He is considered the father of the parks system, and Whitnall Park is named for him. He also made important contributions in the areas of road and highway development and early automobile regulations. He was a member of the Socialist Party, and several items he wrote about solving post-war debt and taxation problems are included. He died on January 21, 1949, but the collection dates to 1954 due to contributions made by his son Gordon.

Scope and Content: The collection is a mix of his professional and political work as well as personal items and correspondence. His many awards and certificates of elected positions are included, as are personal letters to his friends and wife, Marie. The bulk of the collection includes his miscellaneous publications, letters, newspaper clippings, reports and plans which focus on development, conservation and city planning. Several maps are included in the oversize collection.

Administrative Note: The collection was processed on June 23, 2003 by Anne Stachewicz.  Material was added to the collection on Feb. 18, 2005, and processed by K. Abing.
