Abstract: Ludwig “Louis” Theuer was born in Hallein, Austria, in 1884.  He attended high school in Salzburg and studied Alpine dancing.  He joined the Franz Rainer Alpine Dance Troupe on its 1907 tour of the United States.  He danced with other companies in the U.S. and also did some acting with the Essanay Company in Chicago, working with early film stars Gloria Swanson and Wallace Beery.  He decided to manage resorts in Texas, Illinois and Wisconsin.  He moved to Milwaukee in 1937 and worked many years at the Red Lion tavern in the Knickerbocker Hotel.  He passed away in 1974.

Scope and Content: The collection consists of a scrapbook containing newspaper clippings and photos of Theuer, his relatives and trips he took to Austria.
