Scope and Content: Milwaukee Downer College was formed in 1895 through the merger of Milwaukee College and Downer College, located in Fox Lake, Wisconsin. The forerunner of Milwaukee College was the Milwaukee Female Seminary, founded in 1848 by Lucy Ann Parsons. Downer College’s forerunner was the Wisconsin Female College, founded in 1855 at Fox Lake.
