Abstract: Thomas Lett Kelly was a long-time Milwaukee dry goods merchant.  He was born in Canada in 1833 but relocated to South Carolina in the 1850s.  In 1863, Kelly moved to Milwaukee and launched a thriving dry goods business.  In 1901, he moved to Seattle, where he died in 1902 from Bright’s Disease.

Scope and Content: The collection consists of correspondence (with transcriptions) from Kelly to family members in Canada.  They contain information on conditions in South Carolina during the Civil War and on blockade running.  There are also death certificates, obituaries and burial plot information for other family members.
