Abstract: Fred Froede was a Second Lieutenant of a Field Artillery regiment during the First World War. He married Emily Shaffer. His father, Albert Froede, was a member of E Company, Thirty-Second Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Following the war, Albert studied law and was admitted to the bar in December 1865.
Scope and Content: The collection contains military-related documents, including promotion papers, draft and discharge papers, as well as field artillery school worksheets. Also included are papers related to Fred Froede’s estate. Photographs chronicle the life of the Froede family. One photograph of particular interest is a picture of the 1909 North Division High School football team.
