Abstract: John Doerfler was born in Milwaukee in July 1881.  He attended public schools in Milwaukee.  He became an apprentice at the age of 16 with the Riverside Printing Company and was involved in commercial art/poster work thereafter.  He also was a member of the Socialist Party and served as alderman for Milwaukee’s 7th Ward from 1912 to 1928 when he resigned from the party due to a disagreement concerning an investigation of City Hall.

Scope and Content: The collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, leaflets, and voting literature that pertains to Doerfler’s campaigns for various city/county offices.  Correspondents include Phil and Bob La Follette, Dan Hoan, John J. Blaine, and Henry A. Huber.
