Abstract: Peter Dietz was born in New York City in 1878.  He attended St. Francis Xavier College in New York as well as Bonn University near Cologne, Germany, from 1900 to 1903.  He graduated from the Catholic University at Washington, DC, in 1904.  He was ordained a priest in December 1904 and was assigned to the Cleveland diocese as pastor at Oberlin College.  In 1923, he became the first pastor of St. Monica’s parish in Whitefish Bay and remained there until he passed away in 1947.  Fr. Dietz also was very active in the labor movement, applying the principles of Catholic social justice to promote trade unionism.

Scope and Content: The collection consists of songs and prayers by Dietz, a program commemorating the 40th anniversary of Dietz’s ordination, newspaper clippings, and various publications pertaining to St. Monica’s.
