Overview

The Historical Society’s Museum is responsible for the care of approximately 50,000 artifacts that connect to Milwaukee and Milwaukee County history. These artifacts are collected and cared for with the purpose of connecting Milwaukee’s past to the present, with a focus on the future.

The division’s mission is to preserve, catalog, and research these objects for use in the Society’s exhibits and educational programs. Secondary to this mission is the acquisition of artifacts and the deaccessioning or removal of objects that no longer serve the Society’s collections policy.

The collection is organized into smaller collection categories, with over sixty to date. A full listing and definition of the categories can be found here.

Reproductions of object images are available upon request. Call the Society at 414-273-8288 with the appropriate object number to place your order.
